Marine on Getting Support: “It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done.”
Stefan came from a family of military service and felt joining the Marines was his calling. However, the loss of a friend during deployment and the transition back to civilian life left Stefan feeling uncertain about his purpose. He sought mental health treatment and was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, PTSD, and bipolar disorder. Now, open conversations in therapy and hobbies like wakeboarding help him maintain his mental and physical health.

    I suffered with all you did. Not in war zone but city police and homicide det.im a Army Officers daughter and grew up Army. I lived with what you have looking for. My heart belongs to the military. I have a picture of my Father with the thousand mile stare. My FTher in heaven and i saw growing up Daddy's strength and love but also his torment as a little girl with night sweats, crying out in his sleep. My heart reChes out to you as a friend. Working i law i had stress, have a graduate degree and masters in law. Nothing helped me to become better from hell stress, anxiety. I would like to share with you if possible an answer God brought to me. Im not the average woman as i have suffered my young husband's suicide, loss of several friends. Educating myself, being an artist was not enough so, like you i sought an answer. Being in law enforcement I lived in a man's world. Plus being a military daughter and my Dad in two wars I have not lived a pampered life and supported my self. Enough of me Joshua. I would line to share with you if, you are interested what happened to me to find the answer to stop the sweatin and mental hell No drugs, quit alcohol. I cried out one night while alone in desperation from my suffering. I talked to God and told Him He needed to prove Himself to me, and get me out of my hell. I gound out Gid can take being told off, and is please when a person talks to Him challenges Him to prove H e is and will help me. I told God He had better prove Himself and let me know He heard me and cared about helping me and other people who suffered.Joshua He did that for me at 6 am. He gave me a dream in which Jesus came to me and told me He knew me. With that i knew He was going to help me and tha He would..Joshua He did that. It was easy but it happened. He brought me from darkness to light and helped to take the depression, anxiety, and death wish away and gave me hope and people in my life to help. Joshua i am not a religious freak but a down to earth woman who went from leaning on my attractiveness and thinking i can do it all myself to humbling myself and knowing i cant do it, i didnt have the answer. Nothing as you know usually comes asap but with counseling, prayer, reading the Bible. Gradually Joshua it was a healing process of coming out of that dark hole i was in. Of course ever day we have challenges but now Joshua when new trouble and i experience new pain i am not without hope!❤ maybe this testimony bore you but, if in anyway you woul like to share and bare your heart and would like to know more, please text me at 407 848 4408 I have helped a few people not im special but i care and want to help people who are seaching for an "answer". GOD BLESS YOU Joshua. You can be proud of yourself as you sought help and rearched out for professional help. You know you will continue to struggle and do the positive steps to continue to heal inside. I just want to offer a greater Answer to add to all your positve and proud rehab steps you have already done. Hope this might have encouraged you even more. God bless, a sister who cares and understands. Penny Elliott.

    Why does the VA make it so hard to get help?

    • @VeteransMTC
      @VeteransMTC 12 днів тому

      Hello @panfergan, The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ programs, services, and resources (those generated in our resource locator) are funded by the U.S. Government and are for Veterans (and their family members) only. Whether VA health care is free or offered at low cost (with a co-pay) to a Veteran depends on a variety of factors. You can learn more about the process for enrolling in VA health care, eligibility, and priority groups at: www.va.gov/health-care/eligibility/. If you need additional help, please call VA’s helpline for enrollment and eligibility questions at: 1-877-222-8387. Information about the resources in the SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locator can be found here: findtreatment.samhsa.gov/. The Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locator is a U.S. Government-funded tool that can help any U.S. citizen (Veteran or non-Veteran) find treatment facilities with specific services in their area. Many of the services and programs are not free; however, information about finding no-cost/low-cost options may be located using SAMHSA’s National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357). The National Resource Directory (NRD) provides access to services and resources at the national, state, and local levels to support the recovery, rehabilitation, and community reintegration for service members and Veterans. More information about resources within NRD can be found at nrd.gov/About-Us.

      @stevemoyer8684 If I may, I can tell even from the small amount you shared here that one of your strengths is perseverance. You have kept trying with different providers, even after unsatisfactory experiences. Apparently our bodies can 'hold on' to traumatic events, and sometimes because of this, people don't always find normal talk therapy fully helpful. I have learned that EMDR can be helpful, it might be worth a try. Another option is yoga therapy. One of the most helpful things for my mood has been to get out in nature for regular walks. I don't really know what it is about it, I just find it calming and uplifting. I don't believe any one thing can totally help on it's own, but more like to have a toolkit of things that can help with different things at different times. I wish you the best (keep using your strength in perseverance).

    What a terrible situation. You know they think you just leave the war behind but it is not like that. I have not been in combat but I do know about triggers and sometimes it is hard for me because I do not have that military connection. I am learning to cope but I will keep on trudging.

    Married for 14 years and the first 10 years , My USMC Combat Veteran was in complete denial of anything connected with PTSD. The last 4 he was diagnosed with PTSD. Many times I have been told I will be buried out back in a hole. Its horrendous and somewhat controlled now but even now its just scary and I feel alone and afraid of what is coming. I need counseling .
